How I keep my long hair healthy~~

I am not a hair professional but I would like to share the tips of keeping my long hair healthy. I have a thick coarse hair since I was young. Taming my hair soft and smooth is always a struggle. But when I grow older and use the right hair products, my hair starts to manage and I am quite satisfied with my current hair condition now. I always dye my hair ( every 6 months ) and straighten yearly.  So, to keep that  ( chemical over used ) hair healthy, I always need to make efforts. Below are the tips that I use to manage my hair.

1. Use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner with natural ingredients
I used to use different kinds of shampoos and conditioners in the market ( you name it ) all my life but they strip my hair after wash and makes my hair dry and dull. But after I found shampoos with more natural ingredients, they change my hair life. Sulfate free shampoos do not make my hair dry or dull and they give my hair color back to life. I am loving Aveeno Active Naturals Nourish + Shine Shampoo and conditioner now. I love it because it has more natural ingredients and do not contain harsh sulfate in it.  Their Pure renewal shampoo is totally sulfate free and I will check out soon. I also love organic shampoo like Avalon nourishing lavender shampoo.
Whatever brand you choose to use, go for the ones with natural ingredients, sulfate free and organic shampoos.

2. Avoid the heat as much as you can
I rarely blow dry my hair unless I am in a hurry after I shampoo. I let my hair dry naturally most of the times. But when I need to blow dry my hair or use straightener/curling tools, i use heat protective spray like Tresemme professional heat tamer protective spray. I spray evenly before I use the heat on my hair. They protect my hair from heat and makes it less frizzy and damaged. If possible, avoiding any heat on the hair is the best.

3. Use leave in conditioner for frizz and tangle free hair
As my hair is quite long now, they always got tangled after I wash my hair. I have to use wide tooth comb and leave in conditioner to solve it. Leave in conditioners are the ones that you use after shampoo on the towel dried hair to keep hair soft and frizz free ( no need to rinse obviously ). It really makes a difference If you have thick and coarse hair like me. I use Tresemme split remedy leave in conditioner- it repairs split ends at the same time while making my hair tangle free.

4. Always use a hair oil or serum
I always use hair oil on my ends after the hair is dry. I sometimes use coconut / olive oil
( cheaper option ) or some hair serums like the body shop grade seed serum  on the ends to give my hair extra shine.

5. Treat your hair with treatment
I always treat my hair weekly with hair treatment at home. There are a lot of good hair treatments out there and they are very easy to use. I just apply treatment evenly concentrating on ends after shampoo and leave about 10-15 mins and wash. It makes my hair so soft and smooth. I also like to do treatment at hair saloons about every 3 months to keep my hair healthy.

Tip: If you don't want to spend on hair treatment, you can use coconut oil as treatment. What I do is in the night before shampoo tomorrow morning, I apply coconut oil ( more on my ends ) generously , make a braid and sleep. The next morning, I wash my hair and it really makes my hair soft. I don't even need to use conditioner.

These are all the tips that I use to keep my long hair healthy. Hope you enjoy. All the products I mentioned are not sponsored and purely based on my own opinion.
